Dental Implants

Fast forward a couple decades into the future and dental implants will be commonplace.  Dental implants are spilling over into the mainstream for good reason.  Implants are becoming increasingly affordable, resemble real teeth and even function similar to regular teeth.  As long as you have a sufficiently strong jawbone capable of accommodating titanium rods/screws and do not smoke, you are a candidate for the addition of dental implants to replace missing or damaged teeth.

The titanium screws/rods of dental implants resemble the roots of teeth.  Our dentist positions these titanium fixtures into the jawbone, setting the stage for osseointegration to occur in which the jawbone and titanium merge with one another.  Once osseointegration is complete, an abutment and crown are added to the titanium roots, serving as artificial teeth.

Dental implants even prevent bone below the gums from shrinking through the stimulation of bone growth that is not possible with other tooth replacement options.  As long as you are willing to wait upwards of six months for the forementioned process of osseointegration to occur, you will find your dental implants function and look similar to the teeth you were born with.  If you are missing teeth, have extensive tooth decay or are considering alternatives to dentures, give our dentist in Carol Stream a call today at (630) 665-7350 to find out more about the merits of dental implants.
