A dental implant replaces the root portion of a missing tooth. The visible tooth is recreated using a restoration attached to that implant.
At John E. Sullivan DDS, P.C., we provide implant restorative treatment for patients replacing missing teeth.
After an implant has integrated sufficiently with the surrounding bone, records are taken so the definitive restoration can be fabricated.
Depending upon the case, the implant restoration may include:
An intermediate component known as an abutment may connect the implant to the visible crown.
Careful attention is given to the shape of the restoration, the way it contacts neighboring teeth, the patient’s bite, cleansability, and the health of the surrounding implant tissues.
Dental implants cannot develop cavities, but the tissues and bone around implants can develop inflammatory disease. Proper oral hygiene and professional maintenance therefore remain extremely important.
We evaluate implant restorations during routine examinations just as we evaluate natural teeth, checking the restoration, surrounding tissues, bite, and supporting bone when appropriate.
