Custom Dental Mouthguards | John E. Sullivan DDS

A properly designed mouthguard can protect teeth from both traumatic injuries and excessive forces.

At John E. Sullivan DDS, P.C., we evaluate the patient’s teeth, bite, and reason for needing protection before recommending the appropriate appliance.

Athletic Mouthguards

Contact sports and recreational activities can place the teeth at risk for fractures, displacement, or complete avulsion.

A custom-fabricated athletic mouthguard is created to closely fit the patient’s teeth, providing protection while maintaining greater comfort and stability than many generic over-the-counter appliances.

Nightguards for Grinding and Clenching

Patients who grind or clench their teeth may develop:

  • Flattened or worn teeth
  • Chipping
  • Fractures
  • Tooth sensitivity
  • Muscle fatigue
  • Jaw discomfort
  • Damage to crowns or other restorations

A custom occlusal appliance can help distribute forces and provide a protective barrier between the teeth.

A nightguard does not necessarily eliminate the underlying causes of bruxism, but it can protect the teeth and restorations from repeated mechanical stress.

Because different patients require different appliance designs, we evaluate the bite and individual pattern of wear before recommending treatment.
